I wouldn’t blame this on “fuzzy math.” I’d more likely blame it on Michaels not knowing the number, like he said. It seems quite strange for Waxman to demand an inquiry into whether or not Michaels misled Congress based entirely upon a on-the-spot guess by Michaels.
It’s also worth remembering over a year had passed between Michaels testifying in front of Congress and that interview so his funding situation could have changed.
Conversely, no scientist who accepts government funding can advocate for government expansion.
